Getting paid
What does card payment collection really cost?
Card collection costs depend on the processor, card type, currency and account terms.

The short answer
Card collection costs depend on the processor, card type, currency and account terms.
Card collection costs depend on the processor, card type, currency and account terms. For Stripe Ireland’s standard pricing checked on 1 October 2026, standard EEA cards are listed at 1.5% plus EUR 0.25 per successful charge. Other cards and services have different fees.
Explore the wider invoicing and getting paid guides for the steps around this decision.
A fee worksheet
For an illustrative EUR 100 charge under that stated standard EEA-card rate:
EUR 100 × 1.5% + EUR 0.25 = EUR 1.75
The illustrative net before other applicable adjustments is EUR 98.25. This is not a universal card fee, custom-account quotation or promised payout amount.
| Input | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Card category | Standard/premium, issuing region and applicable rate |
| Currency | Any conversion charges |
| Product used | Additional service fees where relevant |
| Account agreement | Standard or negotiated pricing |
| Exception | Refund, dispute and other applicable terms |
Check Stripe’s current Ireland pricing directly before using the calculation. Its published page also lists different rates for other card categories; do not apply the standard EEA rate to every payment.
Keep collection fees separate
The customer pays the invoice amount. A processing fee is a business cost under the applicable arrangement, not automatically an unpaid balance to chase. Any surcharge or contract charge raises separate rules and should not be assumed from this worksheet.
JobDiary’s subscription price is separate from payment processing through your own Stripe account. This guide does not change processor terms, promise fee-free collection or determine accounting/tax treatment. Use the actual transaction statement to reconcile the customer payment, fee and settlement.
