Running the round

When does a recurring customer stop being profitable?

Review a recurring customer's profitability using the actual cost of serving their visits, not just the amount collected.

The short answer

Review a recurring customer's profitability using the actual cost of serving their visits, not just the amount collected.

Review a recurring customer’s profitability using the actual cost of serving their visits, not just the amount collected. Include the defined labour, travel and material inputs, then state which costs remain unallocated. High annual billing does not by itself prove a healthy return.

Explore the wider recurring work inside the crm guides for the steps around this decision.

A customer-contribution illustration

Four completed visits Illustrative total
Revenue on chosen tax basis EUR 240
Assigned labour EUR 120
Allocated travel EUR 40
Assigned equipment/material inputs EUR 20
Result before other costs/tax EUR 60

The numbers are invented examples. They are not an Irish service rate or a customer result from JobDiary.

Investigate the cause

A weak result can reflect longer work, difficult access, repeated failed visits, unpriced scope or travel allocation. Check actual records before making a price or service decision. Missing costs can produce a falsely reassuring result.

Compare similar periods and the same service scope. A seasonal project or one-off extra should not be confused with the regular visit economics.

Decide what changes

Options may include clarifying scope, improving access arrangements, replanning the route or reviewing price under the agreement. The choice depends on evidence and customer fit; do not assume every less profitable account should be dropped.

JobDiary’s customer, work and cost records can support the review, but a recurring-customer contribution report or automatic allocation needs separate verification. Use a transparent worksheet if that is what the current record supports. Keep cash received distinct from earned revenue and defined job result.
