Window-cleaning job costing for business owners
For window-cleaning business owners: estimate labour, travel and equipment costs, build quotes and review the margin on recurring jobs.
The short answer
For window-cleaning business owners: estimate labour, travel and equipment costs, build quotes and review the margin on recurring jobs.
For a window-cleaning business owner, a quote needs a defined scope, estimated crew time and a consistent allocation of travel and equipment costs. Keep those assumptions with the job record so you can compare the estimated margin with the work your crew actually delivers.

Operator pricing worksheet
| Input | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Service | Included surfaces/tasks and exclusions |
| Access | Practical constraints requiring assessment |
| Labour | Estimated person-hours on a documented cost basis |
| Travel/setup | Allocation not already included elsewhere |
| Equipment/material inputs | Defined use/consumption cost |
| Price rule | Markup or margin on the stated cost base |
Use qualified assessment and appropriate safety procedures for the work. This guide does not prescribe access methods or safe equipment use.
A worked pricing illustration
Suppose an example service has EUR 24 of assigned labour, EUR 8 of travel/setup and EUR 4 of defined equipment/material cost. The stated cost base is EUR 36. At a chosen 25% contribution margin on that base, the calculated price is EUR 48 before applicable tax: 36 divided by 0.75.
The inputs are invented arithmetic, not observed Irish market prices or a recommended rate. Add excluded overhead and other costs under a consistent method before deciding the price.
Review repeat work
Compare actual visit time and costs with the estimate, keeping first visits and agreed extras distinct. Confirm the price and scope with the customer under the applicable agreement.
JobDiary’s window-cleaning use case supports customer, recurring work and payment records. It does not choose the commercial rate or certify the work method. Use the history to review your own business’s assumptions rather than copying another provider’s price.
