JobDiary product workflow
See what went into the job before judging what it earned.
JobDiary connects job profit and reports to the work record. Quoted value, invoices, payment records, hours and materials answer different questions. A useful costing routine checks those records before treating a figure as a finished result.
Start free trialRecord the cost while the work is clear
Capture labour hours and materials against the relevant job or project. Review travel, waste, hired equipment and other costs your business needs to allocate. Agree a labour cost basis and use it consistently. Missing inputs can make a report appear stronger than the work really was, even when the software calculates the entered figures correctly.
Compare the plan with the actual work
Use the quote as a planning record, then inspect the hours, materials and changes recorded during delivery. Ask whether an overrun came from scope, access, pricing or missing approval. Keep agreed extras visible before invoicing. Repeated exceptions are a reason to improve the estimating method, not just increase every price by the same amount.
Separate contribution from cash and net profit
Revenue less assigned direct costs is a job contribution, subject to the costs included. Overhead, tax and unpaid invoices require separate attention. A completed job can show a positive contribution while the invoice remains outstanding. Review unbilled completed work and incomplete cost records alongside the headline report, then reconcile the financial business in your accounting process.
Check the scope for your business
JobDiary supports operational profit visibility. It is not a replacement for statutory accounts, tax calculations or a complete payroll system. Test the exact costing inputs and report definitions with representative work before relying on a figure.
